How to Tell if Your Soap is Authentic Handmade Cold Process Soap?

Check the Ingredients List
True cold process handmade soaps are made from natural materials without chemicals. They should also specify a curing (maturation) date.

Look at the Transparency
Real handmade soaps are usually opaque. If the soap is transparent and lists ingredients like sucrose or ethanol, it’s probably made from a melt-and-pour base, not true cold process soap.

Smell the Scent and Observe the Color
Authentic soaps have a light natural scent from oils, sometimes with an earthy tone. Strong artificial fragrances may indicate synthetic perfumes, which can be allergens.

Feel the Texture
Genuine handmade soaps often feel slightly rough or uneven due to handcrafting. They won’t be overly smooth or slick.

Heat Test
Cut a small piece of soap and heat it to about 100°C: Soap bases will melt into a liquid and re-solidify smoothly. Cold process soaps will soften slightly but won’t fully melt or re-form into the original shape.
